Rev. Jimmy Moore, Pastor

I have served on the pastoral staff at St. Mark’s since July of 2015. I am married to Mary Beth Morgan, pastoral colleague at St. Mark’s, and with her, share two grown children, two step-children, two grandchildren, and two dogs. Originally from Mississippi, I was nurtured in the Southern Baptist tradition, and was ordained in that denomination in 1980 when I graduated from seminary (The first time). Eventually (shorthand for a long story), I transferred my credentials to the United Methodist Church. Spiritually, I am energized by theological reflection, counseling, preaching, discernment processes, and reading. I also love staying physically active, playing guitar, hiking with the dogs, and sharing bleacher and couch seats with Mary Beth as we root, root, root for the Cubbies.

I have been fortunate to serve on the pastoral staff at St. Mark’s since September of 2008. Married to Jimmy Moore, I am blessed to share the same family he wrote about above. I was born and raised in Chicago, in the Roman Catholic Church and in the bleachers of Wrigley Field. Later, I lived in South Bend, IN, and started my years in public education as a teacher and then as a consultant with the Indiana Department of Education. My first real introduction to the United Methodist Church was through an Adoptive Families group that met at a local UMC. Serving on a church staff and seminary came later. I am energized by preaching & involving all ages in worship leadership, teaching, advocating for social justice — including with interfaith partners — and am honored to be with individuals and families in some of their most sacred moments. Personally, I try to keep up with two sons in college (one here and one in Kansas). Jimmy and I enjoy being at the activities of both grandchildren, and spending time together.
